Society for the Rational Study of Religion

(SRSR)

sm

Welcome to SRSR where you're invited to check your coat at the door, not your brainI'm not trying to be a wise guy, just suggesting that people think seriously about the questions that have intrigued and perplexed people since the beginning of time.

The "rational study of religion" isn't really an oxymoron... but it's does contend with the notion that, "you can't win an emotional debate with a logical argument"... Ed Rollins?  The rational study of religion doesn't mean lack of faith any more than the irrational study of religion indicates its presence... but try suggesting that to people!

“... Unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven”...Matthew 18:3.  Does this mean we should always be childlike regarding religion and faith?  SRSR believes there may be times to be childlike but even in God related matters there's nothing wrong with acting like adults.  In fact in 1 Corinthians 13:11 Paul says, "When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child.  When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me."  So are we to "become like children" or "never enter the kingdom of heaven", or are we to "put childish ways behind."  If you say I'm taking these out of context and they have no connection, I can only say I respectfully disagree and repeat that there is nothing wrong with acting like adults.

Faith is wonderful but blind faith is something else and misguided faith can be the prelude to things like Jonestown Kool-Aid.  There's nothing wrong with subjecting religious "truths" to a little scrutiny and if valid they should stand up to it just fine.  SRSR was conceived with the premise that people with inquiring minds, have the right and responsibility to approach religion and spirituality with their eyes, ears and minds wide open!

"Here’s a truck stop instead of St. Peters"…REM

They rushed to get there, sat in the block wall sanctuary and listened to the pastor preach over a PA.  Outside snow capped the trees and as always God spoke without the need for loud speakers.

SRSR's promotes the study, seeking and discussion of: God, spirituality and the eternal questions... where did we come from, why are we here and where are we going?  Is that a bunch of BS?  I don't think so.
